Weekend Work Wonkas

The weekend has been nothing but a total waste... I wasn't able to finish even half of what I had planned on accomplishing, and until now I'm quite annoyed by that fact.

But I am more annoyed by the fact that I wasn't able to get things done simply because there were visitors in the house. How come I'm so easily distracted? And when I get distracted, it becomes difficult for me to get back to work. And then I get irritated because I know I'm procrastinating again. And then the irritation builds up until I get so angry and frustrated with myself I decide to forego all my original plans and just go to sleep...

And then walah! Nothing done and echoes of self-disappointment resound all through the rest of the week.

I should really learn to concentrate better. And learn to handle less than ideal circumstances and situations so that my plans don't get all too boggled.

But then again, I can always blame everything on Murphy's law...

(P.S. I have no idea what "wonka" means. I just thought it was a nice w-word to go with my title hehehe)

Google Facts

Interesting facts I learned today about Google:

- Visit the Google Zeitgeist to find out about the latest search trends and patterns.

- It's possible to narrow Google searches by using date ranges. But the catch is you have to use the Julian date format, which brings me to the next interesting fact I learned today...

- The Julian date is the number of days that have passed since January 1, 4713 B.C. An alternative format is yyddd, which is also referred to as Julian date. First two digits are the most significant digits of the year, and the last three the day of the year (from 1 to 365).

And if you haven't already noticed, got these from reading cnet.com.

This is one of those days that I feel so off-balance. You know... those days when you feel like everything is slowly slipping away. I'm losing my focus, my drive, my goals... feels like everything is teetering on the edge of insignificance... of unimportance.

Bleh! Must be because I've been sleeping very late for several days now. Must be affecting me more than I thought.

What you were and what you have become

Copied the entry below from this blog. I just had to post it here too because these words hit me so close to home...

Lucas: And Hansel said to Gretel, “Let us drop these bread crumbs, so that together we can find our way home, because losing our way would be the most cruel of things.” This year, I lost my way.

Nathan: And losing your way on a journey is unfortunate, but losing your reason for the journey is a fate more cruel.

Peyton: The journey lasted 8 months. Sometimes I traveled alone. Sometimes there were others who took the wheel- and took my heart. But when the destination was reached, it wasn’t me who arrived. It wasn’t me at all.

Brooke: And once you lose yourself you have two choices: find the person you used to be, or lose that person completely.

Mouth: Because sometimes you have to step outside of the person you’ve been and remember the person you were meant to be, the person you wanted to be, the person you are.

Smaller and smaller

This link from slashdot.org is really, really interesting. Imagine molecular transistors... wow! every gadget we own now has the potential to become smaller. Handhelds would probably have the computing power of desktops, the I-pod mini could soon be the I-pod micro, and our already fast-shrinking cellphones would have more room to... well... shrink!

What I like best though is the foreseeable immediate application of this new technology... medical sensors which doctors can use to diagnose certain maladies by detecting the presence of certain molecules. Don't you just think that's so "Star-Trekky"? =)

I wonder what it feels like to be the one to develop such ground-breaking technology? Makes me wish I were smart enough to invent something as useful as that.
